God’s ‘Yes’ encounters our ‘no.’
God’s new life encounters our hold on the old.
God’s light overcomes our darkness.

The first promise of creation...
The first claim of the incarnation...
Is light.
God says ‘Yes’ to new life.
---
The first promise of creation...
The first claim of the incarnation...
Is light.
Not for us to hoard.
The light shows us who we really are.
No... we aren’t re-made this moment perfect.
no... we don’t get a free pass from hardship and death.
The light shines in the darkness.
God’s life breaks our hold on the old and the dying.
---
The first promise of creation...
The first claim of incarnation...
Is light.
No... what you see is not the end.
No... what you believe lost is not lost to God.
The light makes new.
We are declared whole --- Righteous.
We are lit up by the light - and not rejected or lost.
The light calls us to be open.
The light makes new.
And just watch
And stop and and see.
The light is all around us.
God’s light shines to overcome our darkness.
God’s light breaks in and and makes all things new.
In Christ, the light re-creates us. In the light, we are a new creation.

Grace Lutheran Edson... are we ready to let this light work in us? (Long pause)
Are we closed and holding to what was... or are we willing to be open and believe and trust in a living God who is doing new things and bringing new life? (Long pause)

Let us say goodbye to 2010...
Let us put all the years behind us and take forward the insights and the light we’ve seen.
Let us look to 2011.
Let us look with new eyes to where the light will shine.
Let us look at what is being made new.
2011 is the year the light will shine.... the light shines and the darkness does not overcome it.
2011 is the year that new things will happen - not all pleasant... not all expected... in the world of darkness, the light makes new things happen.
2011 is the year we will make hard choices... we will be touched by death... darkness will be all around.
2011 is the year that we live new lives - in the promise of the light - because that is who God is... because that is who we are... and the light is doing new things...
And so... BE OPEN.
To the light that opens us to new possibilities.
To the light that forms and reforms this community - which is always being made new.
To the light of life that is reaching not just us... but our neighbors and the whole world and all of creation that so desperately needs the light.
And Thanks be to God - the light comes in Christ to be one of us... the light proves that it is for us... and the light promises to be with us.
Amen.

No not Christmas tree lights... that’s just a symbols.
No... not candles... That’s just a hint of the light.
The Light is all life - God in all things.
In the beginning, the light shone
To this day, the light is not overcome
The Light births and rebirths.
Makes and re-makes all life.
Makes and re-makes all life.
Not apart from the creator.
Not a one time thing.
The Light is ongoing -- new creation.
God says ‘Yes’ to new life.

The first promise of creation...
The first claim of the incarnation...
Is light.
Not for us to hoard.
Not something we control.
The light shines through us.
We are called to be the children of the light. We are adopted children...
all that belongs to the Father is ours.
We are given the light that shows us the nature of God.The light shows us who we really are.
No... we aren’t re-made this moment perfect.
